Uncanny Valley

1 minute read

I spend my days staring back at them through the glass. The creatures point, frown and (I think) giggle sometimes. The little ones cover their eyes when I look at them. If I move around the cage there is commotion in the crowd.

Today they bring me a new companion. They’ve been trying to create a human female for months but never seem to get it quite right. This one is missing her lower jaw, although she walks on two legs and seems less aggressive than her predecessors. They wait for my reaction.

Funny: it’s almost as if they are trying their best to make me happy here. Truth be told, when there are no alternatives your standards tend to drop quite a bit.

At least this one won’t bite me.
